An account reset is an option offered by some evaluation programs that reinstates a failed evaluation — restoring the account balance to starting level and restarting the assessment — at a reduced fee compared to purchasing a full new evaluation. It is a commercial feature, not a universal program element, and its availability, cost, and conditions vary.
A reset is triggered voluntarily by the trader or automatically after a breach. It does not erase the breach — it acknowledges it and offers a discounted path to try again rather than requiring a full new purchase.
Reset versus new evaluation purchase
The financial difference depends on the reset fee relative to the original evaluation fee. A reset at 50% of the original fee is a meaningful saving for a trader who failed early and wants to try again. The conditions attached to the reset determine whether it is actually equivalent to starting fresh:
- Does the reset restore the full original drawdown room, or does it carry over any residual state from the failed attempt?
- Does it restart the minimum trading days counter from zero?
- Does it apply the same ruleset version as the original purchase, or the current version if rules have changed?
- Is there a limit on how many resets can be applied to a single account?
Voluntary versus breach-triggered resets
Some programs allow a trader to voluntarily reset before breaching — for example, if the account is heavily drawn down and the trader judges that recovery is unlikely without undue risk. A voluntary reset before breach may preserve access to a lower reset fee tier that is not available after a hard breach. Whether this option exists, and the fee difference, is a rule detail worth confirming before approaching a loss limit.
Resets and fee refund eligibility
Where programs offer a fee refund on first payout, it is common for that refund to apply only to accounts that passed without using a reset. A reset path to a funded account may still deliver the full payout split but without the original evaluation fee being returned. Confirm this interaction explicitly if the fee refund is a material part of the value calculation.
