A payout cycle is the schedule and conditions under which a funded trader can request a withdrawal of simulated performance rewards — defining how frequently payouts are available, the minimum amount, and any conditions that must be met before a request is eligible.
Payout cycle terms are among the most consequential commercial terms in any funded program and among the most commonly obscured. The headline split percentage means little without knowing when payouts are available, what must be true to qualify, and how long processing takes.
Common payout cycle structures
Programs structure payout cycles in several ways:
- Calendar-based: Payouts available once per month (or fortnight, or week) on a fixed date, regardless of when the request is submitted.
- On-demand: Payouts can be requested at any time after a minimum profit threshold is reached, with a processing window after approval.
- Milestone-based: A payout becomes available after hitting a defined profit level, not tied to a calendar.
The interval between request and receipt matters separately from the cycle frequency. A program that allows monthly requests but takes 15 business days to process has an effective payout lag of up to 45 days from cycle open to funds received.
Conditions attached to payout eligibility
Most programs attach conditions to payout eligibility beyond simply being in profit. Common requirements:
- A minimum number of trading days in the cycle.
- Net profit above the high-water mark from the previous payout.
- No open positions at the time of the request (some programs require a flat account).
- A minimum payout amount — requests below the threshold are deferred to the next cycle.
Payout cycle and the profit split
The profit split percentage defines the share — the payout cycle defines when and whether that share is accessible. A 90% split paid quarterly is economically different from an 80% split paid monthly, depending on account size and trading frequency. Evaluate both together, not the split alone.
